Several people have so far benefited from the various scholarship programmes of St Paul Anglican Church in Port Harcourt, Rivers state.
The Anglican Bishop of the Diocese of Niger Delta North, Rt. Rev. Wisdom lhunwo who disclosed this during a press briefing to herald the 30th anniversary of the diocese, on Tuesday, said the church was committed to education and human development as part of its mission to promote social progress.
“The church instituted scholarship programme for indigent students who want to go to school.
“By the grace of God, the programme is on the third batch currently. The first batch of students have graduated and are practising in law and in medical school.
“Furthermore, in the area of theological education, it has agreed that anybody who would be sent to theological school won’t spend a dime as it will pay their tuition fees, feed them and buy books for them”, he pointed out.
Speaking further, Bishop lhunwo noted that the church focused on shaping life through education and supporting students from disadvantage background.
While appealing to well meaning individuals and corporate organizations to join hands with the diocese to enable it achieve its set objectives, the clergy expressed gratitude to God for what he has used him to achieve in the body of Christ since he assumed office more than seven years ago.
He disclosed that the 30th anniversary celebration will feature special services and recognition of individuals who had made significant contribution to the church.
He added that the celebration will draw clergies, worshippers, dignitaries from within and across the Niger Delta and beyond.
