A vulcaniser was reportedly hit by a stray bullet on Friday during a struggle between a man and a guard at the Oke-Kura prison in the Okekura area of Ilorin, the capital of Kwara State.
It was learnt that during the scuffle, a gunshot was fired accidentally which hit the victim.
It was gathered that the man had been causing trouble around the Correctional Centre located in the area before the final attack on the officer at the center’s entrance.
It was also gathered that the man used to throw stones at people and their shops, leading to many shop closures and people fleeing to avoid harm.
The Public Relations Officer of the State Command of the Correctional Centre, Adegbulugbe Philip, confirmed the incident.
He said; ” a man named Kazeem Adam, armed with a knife and stones, was damaging vehicles and property in the area.
”In an attempt to arrest him, ASC Ismail Kabir, a guard at the Oke-Kura prison, struggled with the suspect. During the scuffle, the suspect stabbed ASC Kabir on the head, causing severe injuries.
”Additionally, during the struggle, ASC Kabir’s rifle accidentally discharged, and a bullet hit Abdullahi Ayinla, the vulcaniser.
”Both victims are currently receiving treatment at the State General Hospital in Surulere and Balogun Hospital in Ilorin, respectively.
”The authorities have initiated a preliminary investigation into the incident”.
