The people of Ukhiri Community have commended Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State for his efforts towards ensuring that justice is served on the killing of some indigenes of Ukhiri community by some misguided elements.
In a statement signed by the Ohen of Ukhiri Pa Phillip Uwuoroya for and on behalf of Ukhiri people, they appealed to the governor to set up a panel of inquiry to look into the crisis that has duged the Community for some time now.
The statement read in parts, “We the people of Ukhiri community wish to use this medium to appreciate the Peoples’ Governor, the Wake and See Governor for his effort so far in making sure that the people behind the killings in our community are brought to book.
“We believe these efforts when fully pushed through will in turn bring about lasting peace and development to the community in particular and the state in general.
“We also want to use this medium to remind His Excellency the Governor of the investigative committee he promised to set up to critically look into the problem of the community that led to the crisis with a view to ensuring such dastardly and despicable act does not respeat itself in the community and the state in general.
“Sir, we plead with you to expedite action on the committee so that they can help bring about lasting solution to the problem at hand by ensuring that all the people behind the barbaric act are brought to book”.
The appeal they said became necessary in view of fact that “our people can no longer go to their farms or do their daily jobs in the community because of the fear that they could be hurt or killed; we are also aware that the people behind this evil act are still threatening fire and brimstone”.
They expressed their confidence in the capability and capacity of the governor to bring what they called ‘this demonic set of people’ to book.
“We also know that with your order and directives, the police and every other security agencies will rise up to their task and responsibilities. We also want you to know that we are not ungrateful and cannot pretend not to know how much efforts you have put in place to see that Justice is served on this matter”.
