The Redeemed Christian Church of God, Peniel Assembly parish has distributed hundreds of meals to people in its neighborhood at Eliozu in Port Harcourt, the Rivers state capital.
The distribution which took place during a programme tagged, ‘Neighbours Day”, organised by the parish on Sunday evening, saw its members handing out food, clothes and shoes to people comprised of Childrren, youths, men, women and the elderly as well as conducting free medical check up on some of them.
Speaking in an interview with Metronetworknews, the resident pastor, Dele Oludare said that the project was one of the Corporate Social Responsibility, CSR, activities done by the parish.
”The aim of this programme is to reach out to our neighbours in this festive period of easter, feed, clothe and preach Christ Jesus to them. We want to see how we can make people happy during this festive period by giving them welfare materials.
”If you look around, you will know that there is hunger in the land so what we thought about was to fill in the gap in our own little way by reaching out to the people in our environment.
” Christ Jesus fed the multitude (Luke 9:16). As a parish, we practise and observe everything He did while on earth”, he said.
Furthermore, the resident pastor disclosed that the parish served nearly 1000 meals to the people at the programme.
Also, speaking in a chat with Metronetworknews, Deacon Reginald Gbasam, noted that they do this at the parish level in the third Sunday of every month adding, however, that “every week preceeding easter we normally come out to have an outdoor neighbourhood day where we share clothings and food to our neighbours.
”As you can see we have a mart where you go and collect clothes, shoes and food. There is also a stand for free medical check up. You can see these are our neighbours who have come for this programme”, he stated.
