Bayelsa State Commissioner for Information, Orientation and Strategy, Hon. Ebiuwou Koku-Obiyai has assured that power will soon be restored in the state.
The commissioner gave the assurance while speaking to newsmen during an on-the-spot assessment of work at the location of the damaged transmission towers in Okogbe along the East-West Road in Rivers State.
She called on residents to exercise a little more patience as the government was aware of the pain the blackout has caused to the people of the state.
The Commissioner also disclosed that discussions are ongoing between Rivers and Bayelsa States at one hand and the Transmission Company of Nigeria TCN, to checkmate the activities of vandals in both states to avoid a future occurrence.
She commended the TCN and contractors handling the job for their commitment in ensuring that power is restored to the state at the nearest possible time.
Also speaking, the Managing Director of the Bayelsa State Electricity Company Limited, Engr. Olice Kemenanabo urged contractors handling the project to complete the work within the 6-weeks timeline given to the state government by the Executive Director of TCN during his visit to the Bayelsa State Governor in September.
In his response, one of the contractors handling the project, Engr. Mustapha said two out of the 3 towers earlier designated for installation have already been completed and expressed hope that the remaining one will be completed within the stipulated timeline.
