A fire outbreak has razed down a block of two-bedroom flats at Eliowhani town in Port Harcourt, the Rivers state capital.
The incident was said to have occurred at about 3:00am in the early hours of Thursday January 9, 2025.
Though the cause of the fire could not be immediately ascertained at the time of filing this report, a neighbour who simply identified himself as John, said that it was as a result of high voltage.
“There was no power supply. It (electricity) was restored at about 3:00 am early this morning with high voltage which resulted in fire outbreak that affected the building”, the neighbour said.
He further said it took the efforts of other neighbours and himself to fight the inferno as no fire service was present to put off the fire.
It was gathered that the landlord and his family who reside in one of the flats were yet to return from the Christmas and new year holidays in the South-East.
It was also learnt that the other flat is a nursery and primary school.
