Following the recent arrest of Hon. Farah Dagogo, a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governorship aspirant in Rivers state, on the orders of Gov. Nyesom Wike, some Port Harcourt residents have cautioned politicians to be careful with the manner they use their power resources to promote their prospects.
Speaking in an interview with Metronetworknews in Port Harcourt, the residents condemned a situation where politicians in power use arrest to prevent the fielding of opposition candidates in their area.
They also disapprove of the use of the instrumentality of law enforcement agents to punish and criminalise their opponents.
A resident Mr. Sokari Damiete, said it was incidence of this nature that led to fall of the first and the second republics.
He cautioned politicians who will do anything that will lead to warfare and breakdown of law and order to desist from it.
On the PDP Governorship screening exercise, he urged the party to ensure that due diligence was taken and nothing should be done to resort to illegitimate process in the selection of aspirants, stressing that every aspirant should be given some element of fairness.
