Olatoye Durosinmi, the Akwa Ibom State Commissioner of Police, has ordered an investigation into the murder of a police personnel identified as Inspector Osang.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, Odiko Mac-Don, disclosed this while confirming the incident.
He described it as unfortunate.
“We have received that information and it is an unfortunate situation. Already, the Commissioner of Police has ordered an investigation and we are committed to ridding the streets of criminal elements.
“We are not deterred by the incident but we are committed to ensuring that criminal-minded persons will account for their actions,” Macdon said.
It was gathered that Osang was beheaded by yet-to-identified gunmen numbering about 10, who stormed his residence located on a lane linking Enen Afaha and Afaha Ube, a suburb within the Uyo metropolis, at about 8:30 p.m, on Wednesday night.
According to the sources, the hoodlums gained entry into the compound and started shooting sporadically to scare away residents and passersby before gaining access to their victim’s apartment.
The murder of the inspector has brought the number of gruesome killings in the state to four in the past two weeks.
It would be recalled that a woman was reportedly killed at the Banking Layout, Udo Udoma Avenue while a man’s lifeless body was dumped at Ikot Oku Ikono junction in the Uyo metropolitan, two weeks ago.
Similarly, a lady was reportedly murdered penultimate Sunday night and her dismembered body tucked in a Ghana-Must-Go bag and dumped by the roadside at the Nwaniba area.
