The Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP), Atiku Abubakar has announced Delta state Governor Ifeanyi Okowa as his running mate in the 2023 general elections.
Atiku who made the announcement on Thursday at the PDP national headquarters in Abuja, said he arrived at his decision after wide consultations with party stakeholders.
“In arriving at the decision, I held wide consultations with various stakeholders in our party, including state governors, Board of Trustees and leaders to seek their inputs and wisdom. In these consultations, I made it clear that my running mate will have the potential to succeed me and must be someone who will stand by me and be able to work with me”, he stated.
Speaking further, the PDP Presidential candidtate said it was a difficult decision for him to make, considering the quality of those that were recommended.
There were reports on Wednesday that a committee headed by the PDP Deputy Chairman, Ambassador Umaru Damagun, had on Tuesday nominated Rivers state Governor Nyesom Wike as the running mate of Atiku Abubakar and 13 out of the 17 members voted in favour of the Rivers State governor.
