Chieftain of the All Progressives Congress(APC), Chief Eze Chukwuemeka Eze says the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike has turned the country into a laughing stock among nations of the world.
Eze who stated this in a statement made available to the media, blamed the situation on President BolaTinubu who according to him ”appointed Wike a Minister despite public oppositions for fear of dishonesty, non-performance and abuse of office which have been his stock in trade since his days as former Obio/Akpor Council Chair. and Rivers state governor”.
The party chief opened a floodgate of instances of Wike’s display of moral poverty, depraved personage and irking character inconsistencies, describing his standard as below the minimum customarily prescribed for public servants in the lowest of societies.
According to Eze, in a publication on February 9, 2020 during a courtesy visit of Oyigbo Leaders to Wike, the then Governor categorically stated that he won’t impose any successor after his tenure.
”These are his words; “I won’t impose a successor in Rivers. I say it to Rivers people, I am not going to impose anybody on this state. I will not do it,” .
With such declaration in a public glare, Eze queried the current feud between Wike and Governor Fubara where the former stated that he bought nomination forms for all elected public servants from Rivers State including the Governorship expression of interest and nomination form for Gov. Fubara.
The party chief went further to highlight that when Wike was asked by an interviewer- BBC Pidgin if he would ever contemplate leaving the PDP for the APC, Wike reacted in shock and said: “Leave for where? I presently have malaria and is it cancer I will go and look for?
“Why are you talking like this? I have malaria that can be treated easily and I will go and look for cancer that will kill me immediately?
“Is the APC a party? A party that has killed Nigerians? No way, I can’t leave the PDP for such a party. Any fight we engage in the PDP is inside the PDP and that is where I will fight. If they like, they injure me there or I injure them but I won’t ever run away. Though I know they cannot injure me.
“That is where we will fight our fight but to leave the PDP that has common malaria for the APC that has cancer, no, it can’t happen.
“See, let me tell you, the APC has stage four cancer and when doctors say you have stage four cancer, just tell your God that it has happened as you can never survive. That is what the APC has. So it will be impossible for me to defect to catch their cancer”.
Eze said, ”It may be proper to settle that the cancer in the party compelled Tinubu, Senator Ganduje and their cohorts to resolve against all sound reasonings to dissolve the Rivers APC duly elected State Exco and replaced it with handpicked Wike boys who are not even members of APC, to help cure the cancer diagnosed by ‘Dr’ Wike, not knowing that the action is to say the least, preparing the party for interment.
He further said, ”Incase the two inconsistencies of Wike above are not enough ground why a reasonable administration should not engage elements of his sort, let us now consider what Wike said in March 27, 2023.
”Speaking on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily programme on Monday, Wike said, ”I won’t hold any grudge against the Rivers governor-elect if he discards my counsels.
“He is not there to serve me. We are there to serve the people. The problem leaders have is that you supported someone to be in office; what you did, was it to help him succeed or fail?
“You want him to be coming to my house to be taking orders why? Once you have left office, you give yourself that respect and say ‘I have done my own.
”If he wants my advice good, it is okay; if he doesn’t, it is okay. But for me to begin from day to day, telling him you must do this, you must do that, that is not acceptable. That is why people fail.
”But Wike recently challenged the incumbent Governor of Rivers State, Sir Fubara.
”In an interviiew with newsmen he said, “If they are impeaching you(referring to Fubara), did you call me?
”Assuming I’m the one who plotted it, did you say, ‘Sir, they want to impeach me?’
”Is that why you will go and send people to burn the hallowed chambers?
”Is impeachment done in one day? Is it a one-day affair?
”Then, you raised ethnic politics. We have never had it like this before”.
”Again, let us listen to Wike as he says he can never accept to be a Minister. in a news report with the caption,’I’m not interested in any ministerial position’, published on August 16, 2022.
“Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike has said he does not intend to become a minister after his tenure as governor.
”This is despite reports that a ministerial position is one of the demands from his camp as part of the conditions to work for the Presidential candidate of the People’s Democratic Party, Atiku Abubakar.
”Wike made the clarification during the commissioning of the newly constructed VIP lounge at the Port Harcourt International Airport Omagwa on Tuesday.
”He said “only one person can be a minister from a state, I will not be a minister. I will not. I am not a liability, Rivers State is an asset.
“So if you don’t want to win an election, it’s your business. I’m not the one running the election.
“He who wears the shoes knows where it pinches him”.
Eze described as mysterious the characteristics considered by those who looked at an element like Wike and considered him fit for the role of a Minister, adding that Wike has turned the country into a laughing stock.
”A man whose statement in the morning is inconsistent with his comment on same subject in the afternoon. God help Nigeria.
“Rivers and Lagos States are not the same. No single man can dictate what happens in Rivers State. We have different ethnic groups and culture”, Wike said. Implying that Tinubu who Wike is referring to is nothing but a dictator who determines who governs Lagos State even it entails employing undemocratic strategies.
”Surely the Guinness World Record need to consider President Tinubu for outstanding Award for appointing such an unstable character into his administration and assigning him such a sensitive portfolio as a Minister of FCT”, Eze said.
Furthermore, he decried the untoward policies with the demolition spree targeted at innocent citizens in the FCT at a moment when the value of the naira has remained on a free fall, and the economy, on a steady downward trend with resultant hardship on the citizenry.
He said, ”it smacks of sheer authoritarianism laced with deliberate wickedness for the FCT Minister to deploy the powers of his office to oppress the defenseless and perceived political adversaries in the guise of reformation”.
