A Chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Chief Eze Chukwuemeka Eze, has debunked a report by another stalwart of the party, Dele Momodu, wherein he claimed that former Rivers State Governor, and immediate past Minister of Transportation, Rt. Hon. (Barr.) Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, has rejected the Vice Presidential slot of ADC .
Eze described Momodu’s statement as self opinionated, misguided and capable of stirring up disaffection, mistrust and internal squabbles within the ranks of ADC chieftains and members.
In a statement on Thursday, Eze, formerly the National Publicity Secretary of the defunct New Peoples Democratic Party (nPDP), insisted that Amaechi has never told anybody that he rejected an offer from the Presidential candidate of ADC, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, as a running-mate.
“In this period of politicking ahead the 2027 general elections, politicians based on their interests and leaning, can reel out what they like, all in the name of politics.
“The truth is that Momodu goofed, he missed the point. His insinuation is not tenable. What he said from the comfort of his convenience is a figment of his imagination.
“His Excellency, Rt Hon. (Barr.) Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi has never told anybody, not even Momodu, that he refused to be Vice President to Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, Eze said.
He clarified that Amaechi, right from the beginning, had maintained that he didn’t buy the ADC Presidential Form to contest the office of the Vice President.
“Amaechi had said severally that he was well qualified to contest the presidency based on his track records and achievements in politics, and not office of the Vice President, Eze said.
The outspoken ADC chieftain posited further that, Amaechi, had in various fora after the outcome of the ADC primaries, which Atiku won, consistently maintained that “Nobody has approached him for any Vice President slot”.
“Where does ‘that nobody’ has approached him for the Vice President slot now means that he will not accept the Vice President Slot if he is called upon for such an offer, Eze asked.
Eze, who said he has much respect for Momodu and his style of politicking, however disagreed with him on the statement concerning Amaechi.
“Let us not jump the gun or dissipate energy on an issue between two refined politicians whose vision is to salvage Nigeria’s democracy from capitulating.
“We should leave Amaechi to continue to discuss with Atiku on the best strategy on how to rescue Nigeria from the doldrums she is currently in, Eze appealed.
Taking a cursory look at Amaechi’s rise to political stardom and his evolution in politics, Eze stated that “Amaechi never struggles for any political position. From Speakership, Governorship, Ministerial positions etc, God is the one positioning Amaechi in all these positions, not man.
“So, if God decides that Amaechi will be the next Vice President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, no force will stop that, Eze stated.
In addition, Eze said his relationship with both prominent Nigerians, transcends ethnicity, class, wealth.
“The Waziri Adamawa is my political father while Amaechi is my political brother, and nothing will break my bond with both leaders.
“Therefore, I will not stand aloof and watch their relationship that will change the fortunes of this country be scuttled for any reason, the ADC chieftain maintained.
He submitted that “Atiku and Amaechi working together to liberate this country from the shackles of bad governance and grip of undemocratic despots is already divinely designed, stressing that anything aimed at scuttling such a union will be calamitous for ADC come 2027.
Recall that Momodu, had during a recent interview on a TV station, on Monday, June 8, 2026, spoke about ongoing discussions within the opposition coalition and the possible political arrangements ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
During the conversation, he reflected on the ambitions of key political figures and the challenges of building a united front capable of challenging the ruling party.
Among other issues, Momodu stated that “Rotimi Amaechi said he would not accept the VP slot, so I do not know if he has changed his mind,” while discussing possible scenarios that could emerge following the ADC presidential primaries.
However, Eze explained that Momodu made the remark in reference to Amaechi’s previously stated position regarding the vice-presidential slot.
“The fact that Amaechi contested the ADC presidential primaries against the eventual winner, Atiku Abubakar, does not preclude him from serving as Vice President if called upon.
“What matters now is having two democratic, patriotic, pragmatic, visionary and people-oriented politicians who are willing and ready to reposition Nigeria to the path of socio-economic growth and national rebirth, Eze said.
