A two-time gubernatorial candidate of Action Democratic Party in Rivers State, Sir Victor Fingesi has condemned the recent incidents that took place in Obio-Akpor and Ikwerre Local Government Areas, where supporters of the immediate past Governor of the state, now Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, allegedly attacked some supporters of Governor Siminalayi Fubara, leaving many injured and property destroyed.
Fingesi who made the condemnation in a statement issued on Friday In Port Harcourt, said that the development if it continues will retrogress the progress of Rivers state.
He urged the immediate past governor to call his supporters to order.
“The people of Rivers state are suffering because of the hardship the entire nation is going through. So, Wike and his supporters must stop what they are doing so that Rivers state can develop and our economy grow.
“Their actions, are completely out of order, causing a situation where nothing is developing or improving in the state.”, he stated.
He further said what is going on in the state might lead to anarchy, which pays nobody any good.
The two-time ADP candidate wondered why this should be taking place in Rivers state when neighbouring states are angry and desirous of development.
He charged the former and present governors to meet if not for anything to ensure that their disagreement do not impede developmental activities in the state.
Fingesi said they could disagree politically but it shouldn’t lead to anarchy.
He warned that their disagreement is being taken too far and that the Rivers elders would not watch with their arms folded as the state is being plunged into chaos.
He called on other elders to join to condemn this development.
He said that Wike is not acting as a statesman who ruled the state.
The Okrika- born politician stated that statesmanship means more patriotism and love for Rivers people.
“As a former governor who was privileged among many to rule the state, he(Wike) ought not to allow any action which would burn down the state but should care if not for anything the peace of the state he once ruled”, Fingesi stated.
It would be recalled that police fired teargas at the Eliozu Healthcare centre in Obio-Akpor Local Government Area, where scores of women and children had gathered for the flag off of the maternal new born and healthcare week. In Ikwerre Local Government Area, the Caretaker Committee chairman, Darlington Oji, accused the former council chairman, samuel Nwanosike of organising an attack that disrupted the distribution of federal government palliatives in Apani and Omerelu communities.
