Turkey has officially changed its name to ‘Turkiye’ in all foreign Languages.
Turkey made this change known In a letter addressed to the UN Secretary-General, Antonio Guterres, on the orders of the Turkish President and signed by the Turkish Foreign minister, Melvut Cavasoglu.
Cavasoglu was quoted as saying, “With the letter I sent to the UN Secretary-General today, we are registering our country’s name in foreign languages at the UN as ‘Turkiye,
Although this is not the first time the country has made move in changing how it is being called in foreign languages. Over the years it had tried to change its product branding from ‘Made in Turkey’ to ‘Made in Turkiye’.
Despite matching its nomenclature in the UN to its spelling in the Turkish Language, it distinguishes the country’s name from the bird with a similar English name.
