Fear has gripped residents of Ikeja in Lagos State over the massive leakage of gas pipeline in the area.
It was learnt that the leakage which occurred on Wednesday, caused feeling of fear among the residents who were worried that the gas leakage could ignite fire outbreak in the place.
The affected areas include Computer Village, Ikeja Underbridge end of Awolowo Way, Oba Akran axis, Anifowose Street, and Medical Road.
Meanwhile, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) spokesperson (South West), Ibrahim Farinloye,who confirmed the development has advised the residents to avoid contacts with naked fire.
” Residents around Computer Village /Underbridge Awolowo Way and Oba Akran axis, Anifowose Street, Medical Road must not open shops or use open naked fire for safety reasons”.
“Distressed alert just received indicates massive leakage of gas pipeline around these areas. Residents are advised to take safety precautions to prevent any form of disaster”, he warned.
In another statement, Farinloye said the gas leakage has been brought under control.
He urged residents to go about their daily routine without any worry as officials have continued to divert traffic around the affected areas.
