9 Reasons Why Jesus Did Not Condemn Tithe In Matthew 23:23 (Part 1)
By His grace, we shall scripturally look at the 9 reasons why the Lord Jesus Christ did not condemn tithe.
Let us search the scriptures together to see, know and understand nine (9) reasons why the Lord Jesus Christ did not condemn tithe in Matthew 23:23 “Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye pay tithe of mint and anise and cummin, and have omitted the weightier [matters] of the law, judgment, mercy, and faith: these ought ye to have done, and not to leave the other undone.”
(1) During this time in His earthly ministry, in Matthew 23:23, the Lord Jesus Christ had not gone to the cross to die for the sin of the world. During this time, the Law of Moses was very much active and fully in operation and the Lord Jesus Christ acknowledged this truth, so He did not condemn the tithe payment or tithing system operating under the Law of Moses. This time was before the Cross.
(2) In Matthew 23: 23, the Lord Jesus Christ was talking to or addressing the Scribes and the Pharisees. He was not talking to His disciples at all! So He allowed them (the Scribes and the Pharisees) to continue obeying the system of tithing under the Law of Moses.
(3) The Scribes and the Pharisees were not disciples of the Lord Jesus Christ but they were disciples of Moses during His earthly ministry (the earthly ministry of our Lord Jesus Christ’)- John 9:28-29 KJV “Then they (the Pharisees) reviled him, and said, Thou art his disciple; but we (the Pharisees) are Moses’ disciples. We know that God spake unto Moses: as for this fellow (Jesus Christ), we know not from whence he (Jesus Christ) is.”
(4) The New Testament Christian believers’ church had not started because during this time, the Lord Jesus Christ had not died, buried and resurrected – He was still physically ministering to the Jews on the earth as dispensation of the Holy Spirit and grace started after His death, burial and resurrection – that is, after the Cross.
(5) The Lord Jesus Christ taught the true Biblical giving while He was physically ministering here on earth – the Biblical giving by grace that is exceedingly superseded tithe and superior to the system of tithing or tithe payment under the Law of Moses. Did Jesus pay tithe? Jesus and His disciples never paid tithes neither did they instruct anyone to do so. The reason is that He only taught true Biblical giving of the New Testament which is devoid of the Law of Moses of the Old Testament because the Old Testament expired as a result of the New Testament by the death and resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ – Hebrews 8:13 KJV “In that he saith, A new covenant, he hath made the first old. Now that which decayeth and waxeth old is ready to vanish away.
By His grace, next week, we shall conclude to scripturally look at the remaining 4:reasons why the Lord Jesus Christ did not condemn tithe.
