A Port Harcourt based Environmental activist, Enefaa Georgwill has urged Rivers State Governor Nyesome Wike to take urgent action over the soot in the state.
The activist who made the appeal in a statement in Port Harcourt, on Tuesday, wondered why the state governor was not showing serious efforts to address the issue.
He noted that Gov. Wike had been vocal on many national issues but cold and unpronounced towards the issue of soot in Rivers State.
Said he;”Truth is, the Federal Government Have Failed Rivers People On The Question Of Soot. They Failed To Fix Our Old Refineries Or Provide New Ones- Mega Or Modular. They Have Failed To Make Kerosene,Gas & PMS That Are Household Items Available. They Have Failed To Mobilize The Security Agencies To Combat Kpo Fire Operators Or Stop Gas Flaring”.
“The Big Question However Is: Should The Rivers State Governor Fold His Hands And Do Nothing Too? Is The Loud Governor Telling Me He Is Helpless? I Don’t Believe Him. I Have Seen Him Confront Federal Forces During Election Or When His Friends Are Attacked By Security Agencies. He Arrested Federal Sanctioned Oil Workers. He Used Police And Army To Lock Rivers State And Oyigbo And Personally Moved Round The State To Force Compliance. He Arrested And Prosecuted Violators. He Brought Down Peoples Houses And Hotels”.
