Amnesty International has condemned the invasion of Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project(SERAP)office in Abuja by operatives of DSS.
The statement reads; ”Amnesty International received disturbing report of the unlawful invasion of the Abuja office of Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Prolect(SERAP) by operatives of DSS.
”President Bola Tinubu is going too far in his government’s repressive efforts to gag dissenting voices”.
A statement by SERAP had reported that officers from the State Security Service (SSS) had ocupied its office in Abuja.
”Officers from the State Security Serviceare presently unlawfully occupying SERAP’s office in Abuja, asking to see our directors.
”President Tinubu must immediately direct the SSS to end the harrassment , intimidation and attack on the rights of Nigerians.
The DSS had earlier on arrested the NLC President, Joe Ajero.
The leadership of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has commenced a closed-door meeting following his arrest and detention of its President by security agents.
NLC’s Head of Public Relations, Benson Upah, made this known in a statement on Monday.
According to Upah, agents of the Nigerian State seized Ajaero without a legal warrant or formal instrument, and his whereabouts and health status are currently unknown.
He said that Ajaero was set to attend and address the global gathering of workers on behalf of Nigerian workers at the Congress of the Trade Union Congress (TUC) in the UK before his arrest.
