The National President of South South Youths Initiative, Comrade Imeabe Saviour Oscar has criticised the Rivers South East Senatorial District thanksgiving service organised by Senator Barry Mpigi, describing it as a misplaced priority.

Speaking in an interview with our correspondent in Port Harcourt, Oscar said that Sen. Mpigi had no legacy of a tangible project and wondered why he shouldn’t have strive to attract developmental projects rather than organising  jamboree.

He expressed displeasure with the conduct of the Senator, adding that posterity will judge him.

His words; ”Mpigi’s thanksgiving service is a misplaced priority . This is not what the people need at this time. What they need is a system of government that can be able to empower them.

” Rivers South East Senatorial District especially Ogoni people suffered so much under the previous administration led by Nyesom Wike, the current FCT minister. It also suffered under the current senator. At a point, the people of the district never wanted a return of Sen. Mpigi for second tenure because during his first term there was nothing to write about.

”The people of the District have not benefited from the representation of Mpigi. His  impact  has not been felt. Even the school that he used to campaign in his second tenure have not  been seen. We’ve not seen the University of Environment that he was projecting in the national assembly.

”The event came to us as a big surprise. We were expecting him to concentrate and think of how he can attract meaningful development, human capacity building and deliver the dividends of democracy to the people since he failed in his first tenure instead of bringing politicians from outside the state for a jamboree thanksgiving service – a thanksgiving service just to score a political point ahead of 2027.

”If he continues like this, we will be forced to do a very serious protest against  him. The people of ogoni are not happy because we’ve not been able to get good representation.

”Dave Umahi who we see as someone that created impact in his state as governor should not be seen in company of Mpigi and Wike who didn’t do anything for Rivers people especially Ogoni people. Umahi should understand that he needs to distance himself from this set of people”, he said.
