Rivers: Youths slam Ibas for preparing his own new 2025 budget, say he’s becoming unbearable, lawless, call for mass protest

A group under the aegis of the South-South Youths initiative has criticised the Sole Administrator of Rivers state, Retired Vice Admiral Ibok Ete Ekwe Ibas for preparing his own new 2025 budget, describing the action as improper.

The national president, Comrade Imeabe Saviour Oscar, who made the group’s position known in an an exclusive interview with Metronetworknews in Port Harcourt, on Friday, condemned the move, calling on Rivers people to immediately form coalitions to demand an end of the administration.

His words, ”It is not typically the responsibility of a Sole Administrator to present a budget. In a normal scenario, the Governor of a state is responsible for presenting the budget to the State House of Assembly for approval.

”However, in a state of emergency, the Sole Administrator may be granted temporary powers to manage the state’s finances, including implementing a budget. But this would be an exception rather than the rule.

”In general, the Sole Administrator’s primary focus is on managing the emergency response efforts, ensuring public safety, and maintaining law and order. Financial management, including budgeting, is typically handled by other authorities, such as the Governor or the State House of Assembly.

”The Sole administrator must be stopped due to the fact that he is beginning to display a misplaced priorities and becoming more political.

”This so-called sole administrator is becoming embarrassing and he is beginning to abuse the opportunity given to him by Mr Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

”Rivers youths must stop him before he gets out of hand .

”We must protest against him and his actions. He is becoming unbearable and beginning to be too lawless.

”We must occupy the state with protest”, he said.

It would be recalled that the Administrator had stated that an appropriation bill for 2025 was being articulated by his administration to provide for critical development concerns in healthcare delivery, education, agriculture and infrastructure, on Thursday.
