The Divisional Police Officer of Oyigbo Division has been removed over allegations of extortion and abuse of office, by the State Commissioner of Police, Olugbenga Adepoju,
In a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, Blessing Agabe, said that Commissioner of Police, Olugbenga Adepoju, ordered the officer’s removal to allow for a thorough and impartial investigation into the allegations.
She noted that the removal of the DPO reflects the command’s commitment to transparency, accountability and professionalism.
It was gathered that the decision followed claims by a rights activist that the officer extorted five hundred thousand naira from a man who was allegedly arrested and detained without any known offence.
It was learnt that the activist, who shared evidence of the payment on social media, also accused the DPO of filing what he described as a questionable charge against a woman.
