Netizens have called on Rivers state Governor, Siminialaye Fubara to petition the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to summon the immediate past Governor of the State, Nyesom Wike to account for the state’s Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) under his administration.
They made the call while reacting to the revelation on the state’s IGR by the state governor.
They urged Gov. Fubara to act fast in the interest of Rivers people.
In his reaction, Sotonye Ijuye wrote, ”When Gov. Fubara says that his administration has increased IGR from 11billion to between 26 – 27billion, he knows that we know that he is not talking about new increases. He knows that we know that it is difficult to increase IGR in a depressed economy, not to talk of doubling it.The governor in his usual taciturnity wants us to count our teeth with our tongue, he wants us to figure things out for ourselves. He is a man of few but deep words. How can an administration achieve 100% increase in IGR in less than a year? How can 15 billion naira more be collected in a depressed economy? The answer is so obvious, it is right in our faces. The 15 billion have always been collected but was never reported and never recorded in the books. What a scandal! I have never taken real interest in Gov Fubara. I have always seen him as a product of a bad system. I have looked at him as someone who betrayed his ‘band leader’ that kept him in-charge of their captured estate. I have said that even among rogues, there should be some decency. But this revelation on the state’s IGR has changed my perception of Gov. Fubara. Exposing and recovering such huge sums. Monies that have been keep out of the books conveniently. The Governor now pays 6.7 billion for the Okania-Ogbogoro Road from IGR, without borrowing. This act of Gov. Fubara should be applauded by all well-meaning people. He should be supported and encouraged to do more in unveiling the evils of the past and redirecting Rivers StateJust a minute please. Did I hear that his traducers wanted 50% of the IGR and he refused … and that is one major bone of contention? I have been sick since the 15 billion IGR story broke. These guys f-ked us big time. Did we escort them to this world? Gosh!
Soibibo Alalibo: This is the structure they are talking about. Nothing more. Rivers people are wiser & cannot be cowed again”.
Nelson Jaja: All I know…..is that with SIM, our State is in for a peaceful, pleasant, positive and progressive time with very little noise or rancour”.
Eugene Abels: ”I am already clapping Ooo”
Chris Finebone: ”Well, anyone who knows how to pound should pound in the mortar and any novice who can’t pound should do so on the floor”
Soibibo Alalibo: ”Gov. Fubara is a man of conscience, he has kept to the promise of protecting the resources of the state while he saddle the affairs of the state, Sim should be commended for increasing the IGR twice. All what we need to do is to rally around him in support”.
Badom Badomz Barigboma: ”If I was SIM, I’ll gather all my evidences and tucked them save. In 2026 I’ll bring them all before EFCC with heavy petition and locked the man while primary and general election will go smoothly in 2027. Very Simple!
Briggs Roshia: ”I have been in shock since reading details. Now we understand why Wike doesn’t want Gov Simi to have peace. I am sad”.
Ichenwo Goodluck: When he Fubara spoke about increase in the IGR from 12 Billion to 25 Billion, did you hear anywhere he said that the previous administration was stealing money? The man only noted that the previous administration was getting 12 Billion, while his administration is now getting 25 Billion. No where did he mention his predecessor was curving billions for his personal gains. I don’t want to believe that the serial defeats you and your boss encountered since 2015 is now affecting your sense of reasoning.
Ijuye Telescopic: Ichenwo Goodluck, You are correct. This is huge enough to affect the sense of reasoning of anyone. Since creation in 1967 to 2023, Rivers State was only able to grow its monthly IGR to 12billion, then in less than a year it doubled to 27billion and you want it not to affect our sense of reasoning? You want us to believe that nothing went wrong until Gov. Fubara says so”.
Soibibo Alalibo: ”Common sense no tell u say there was massive looting of our common resources by the previous administration” .
Chris Okpokiri: ”The reasons for which they fight his are popping out”.
Dagogo Josiah: Yeah, if Rivers people come to know that their present poverty is preventable, there will be a breach of the peace. But the matter is systemic. In time, with proper automation and digitalization ,strong men will have no place in Nigeria. Even in America, the world’s bastion of freedoms there is a threat of a strong man struggling to undo what has been achieved in over two centuries. So ,for us in Rivers State of Nigeria, there is hope that things will get better especially with civil society that is up in arms to protect fundamental freedoms that’d end going to bed without food. Good afternoon”.
Tamunosiki Emmanuel Orubo: More indeprh search should be made to unravel all other hidden funds by the immediate past administration. God will surely help and encourage Gov. Fubara”.
Briggs Belema: not just the immediate past sole adminstrator, it is foundation laid by we know who continued and sustained by predecessors without exception. We pray for courage, and more wisdom to toe the path of progress where the commonwealth serves the common good for the people”.
Tamunosiki Emmanuel Orubo: He is a professional accountant, he should get to the root of those who perpetrated fraud in all the previous administrations”.
Victor Burubo: ”Tip of the iceberg”.
Forgive Amachree: ”The real structure!
Bright Bright: ”So this was the structure so much talked about?
Hon Saturday D. Ngoji: ”I have no problem with unveiling the truth but my worries is that over the past 24 years other governors are using this hiding IGR to empower their brothers now that is our turn for the empowerment of our brother done open up and now people eye go plenty inside the money which kind wahala come be this one na! Ijaw men hope honest-truth will not kill us! no wonder our supposed brothers dey hate us because they feel we act to be too good all the time. See Sir Siminalaye Fubara could have just be using this money to be empowering us like the way Wike did with his brothers. Well, I appreciate your sincerity my governor but our problem will start when we come government house and you’ll snap picture with us without giving us like 10million for transport. 24 years of waiting is not easy ooo!
Ibibia Thommanuel: Let us be circumspect in what ever insinuations and innuendos that we make today, like you rightly pointed out,he was part of the “system” and in the civil service regulations and all the financial instructions that guides the civil service, there is no where, the governor signs any cheque book, all the financial transactions are done by the civil servants, and the head of the office,is the accountant general, and the last occupant is the current governor, which invariably, makes him an accomplice and if there is any financial infractions, then the current governor is complicit.Currently, there is no “integrity” in the account books of the state government and if governor Sim is sincere, honest, transparent and want us to believe that he is accountable to rivers people, then he should send lawyers to vacate the “perpetual injunction” issued against the EFCC and all other anti corruption agencies, so that they can come and open our financial records, then I will believe in the integrity of the current governor,if not they are all the same, just playing to the gallery because of the current political fight, between “father and son”
Recall Gov. Fubara, had stated that the least his adinistration generate this period is N26billion – N27billion and that the highest the immediate past government was generating before was N12billion – N13billion.”
He spoke when he played host to the leadership and members of the House of Representatives Committee on Public Accounts on a courtesy visit to Government House in Port Harcourt on Friday.
