Internally Displaced Persons, IDPs, at Ogbogu Community Secondary School in Ogba Egbema Ndoni Local Government Area of Rivers state have lamented the sharing of relief materials in their camp,pleading with donors to always supervise its distribution by themselves instead of handing it over to camp officials.
They accused the officials of diverting food donated for the feeding of the displaced persons, mostly women and children.
They also complained of criminal activities inside the camp which they said has been a source of worry even as they decried the poor medical attention given to them, blaming the situation on government’s neglect of the camp.
A midwife at the Camp , Happiness Timothy expressed concern that government has not done enough in taking care of the flood victims especially with their system of sharing the relief material.
” I am worried about the poor medical attention given to them at the camp which is at Ogbogu Community Secondary school.
“There has not been enough drugs, mosquito nets and bed, especially for the pregnant women. Two pregnant women have entered into labour.The little relief material that comes are been diverted by those who are claiming organizers of the camp”, shw lamented.
The flood which ravaged parts of Rivers state, has sacked thousands of persons from their homes.
Affected victims now camp in schools and public buildings.
Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike had recently approved the sum of N1bn for the purchase of relief materials for affected families.
