Some female secondary school students across Rivers state have reportedly refused to be vaccinated against the human papilloma virus.

Sources from the schools hinted that the students said that their parents cautioned them not to take the vaccine.

The parents’ rejection, Metronetworknews gathered may not be unconnected with the rumours making the rounds that the vaccine was to depopulate Nigeria.

In a viral video on ig:classicglory, sighted by our correspondent, a woman was heard warning parent not to allow their girls to take the vaccine.

The lady said her sister who works in a hospital in Abuja passed the information to her and enjoined her to spread it.

Her words; ”No parents should allow his or her girl child both in the church, school or compound to take this injection that they are walking around to give all the female child. They want to reduce the population in Nigeria. They say that the  injection is to prevent cancer. It is not true. They are giving it so that a female child cannot be able to give birth in future. They use the vaccine to deceive us that it is for the prevention of cancer in future. Is it not cancer. They want to reduce the population of Nigeria”.

It would be noted that the Rivers state Primary Healthcare Management Board embarked on the exercise, recently.

The board called on the public and parents to visit the nearest health facilities to vaccinate their girls from 9-14 years against the virus inorder to protect them against cervical cancer.

Health workers from the board could be seen moving around in the communities and visiting  schools to administer the vaccine.

Some schools, it was gathered, sought the permission of parents before granting the health workers access into their institutions to carry out the exercise.

All efforts to speak with the management of the board to get their reaction proved abortive as at time of filing this report.
