The Commissioner of Police Rivers State command, CP Eboka Friday has banned the use of sirens, revolving lights, spy and covered plate numbers in the state.
In a statement issued and signed by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Nnamdi Omoni, stated that the ban had become necessary following the indiscriminate use of these facilities by criminals and unauthorized persons to commit crimes and other atrocities in the state.
The statement enjoined those with these facilities to dismantle them within 7 days, warning that no effort would be spared in dealing with the violators of this directive.
It stated that a taskforce has been set up to ensure full compliance.
It added that the taskforce headed by the Commander, Operation Sting, ACP Jephthah Nengi, has been given the marching order to enforce compliance.
It appealed to the residents of the State, particularly Banks, Companies, Private Individuals and Security Personnel except those on Covert Operations to show understanding by complying with the above Directive and immediately remove the unauthorized and prohibited facilities or face Prosecution.
The statement read; “It has been observed that criminals and other unauthorized persons are using SIRENS, REVOLVING LIGHTS, SPY AND COVERED PLATE NUMBERS to commit crimes and other atrocities in the State”.
“In view of these disturbing developments and sequel to the earlier Directive of the Inspector General of Police, IGP Alkali Baba Usman PSC(+) NPM fdc on the abuse and indiscriminate use of SIRENS, REVOLVING LIGHTS, SPY AND COVERED PLATE NUMBERS, without appropriate approvals, the Commissioner of Police, Rivers State Police Command has with immediate effect banned the use of these facilities in the State”.
