A former interim spokesman of All Progressives Congress (APC), Rivers state chapter, Barr. Sogbeye Eli, has said that former Sen. Magnus Abe’s chances at clinching the Governorship ticket of the party at the forthcoming gubernatorial primary election was very slim.
The former spokesman who stated this in reaction to Abe’s declaration to run for Governor under the party’s platform, hinged his reason on the small size of delegates loyal to the Ogoni born politician.
Eli said it was laughable for Abe to think of getting the ticket with a few number of delegates and foolhardy to go into the race without strong support base.
“The Governor wannabe who has only a handful of statutory delegates in the Rivers APC , had the enfrontery to announce that he was running for Governor on the party’s platform. A party whose NEC meets on Wednesday in Abuja to ratify the 2023 Election Timetable drawn up by the NWC, laughable”.
He argued that Abe’s victory would be affected by this problem just as it happened to his henchman, Worgu Boms, who scored only three votes at the last national convention held in Abuja.
Furthermore, Eli wondered why the former senator would spend much time talking about Rt. Hon.Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, his arch enemy, instead of telling Rivers people why he should be trusted to govern the state, at the event which took place in Gokana LGA, on Sunday.
” A man who has been haggling to be Governor with same unmistakable sense of entitlement, grabs the mic yet again and instead of telling Rivers people in that small audience why we should trust him to govern us went rambling about another Rivers man running for President of the federal republic of Nigeria”.
