The nationwide strike embarked upon by railway workers has been called off.
The strike was started on Thursday by railway personnel affiliated with the Nigerian Union of Railway Workers (NUR) and the Senior Staff Association (SSA), Nigeria Railway Corporation.
A joint statement issued and signed by the President General of SSA, Comrade Aliyu Mainasara, the President General of NUR, Comrade Innocent Ajiji, and the Director, NRC, Admin/Human Resources, Dr. Mrs. Monsurat Omotayo, stated that the three-day warning strike was called off after a series of agreements with the Federal Ministry of Transportation (FMOT) and NRC management,
According to the statement,the agreement would allow the workers to form a committee to assess all railway workers’ standard conditions of service.
it was also agreed that personal data on deceased workers should be collected for processing and quick payout.
Furthermore, it was agreed that every worker would be protected by the group life assurance plan as well as all train crews, passengers and commodities in transit, would be covered by insurance and enhanced salary regime would be prioritized by the NRC Board and the federal ministry of transportation, with the goal of obtaining approval for implementation as soon as possible.
