Many people in PortHarcourt, the Rivers state capital, are adopting the new innovation in using gas to power their generators in their different homes and business centres.
Metronetworknews gathered that the reason for such adoption is due to the cost of petrol which burns fastly and the epileptic supply of power in the oil-rich city.
It also learnt that gas stays longer than petrol in powering the generator, hence the mad rush to change to gas.
Meanwhile, the cost of of the gas calbrator which was sold at N8,000 had risen to N40,000.
Inspite of the cost of the calbrator, many city dwellers say in the long run that it was cheaper to use gas.
However, alot of people have cautioned on the danger of using gas.
A technician, Ikechukwu Maduabuchi, said if one is using gas for generator that he must use a competent technician to avoid gas leakage.
Reason being that gas has capacity to heat up the generator engine and if gas leaks and touches on the heated generator engine and panel, it will engulf into flames.
He appealed to people to be cautious as ‘being alive is better than managing cost’, he advised.
