Operatives of the Rivers state Police command have recovered a browning pistol hidden inside a loaf of bread and arrested a suspect identified as Braya Nanas.
The Spokesperson of the command ASP Blessing Agabe Karbolo disclosed this in a statement, on Friday.
According to the statement, the police made the discovery during a stop and search operation along Azikiwe Road by Red Cross Junction in Port Harcourt, the state capital.
It stated that preliminary investigations revealed that the pistol had no visible serial number.
The statement disclosed that the suspect has allegedly admitted ownership of the weapon and told investigators that he purchased it in Okrika for eight hundred thousand naira.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, Rivers State Command, CP Olugbenga Adepoju, has urged residents to remain vigilant and security-conscious.
The CP noted that the concealment of a firearm inside a loaf of bread reflected the increasingly sophisticated methods employed by criminals to evade detection.
He advised members of the public to promptly report suspicious persons, packages, and activities to security agencies and cautioned against transporting or storing items whose contents are unknown.
