The Delta State Police Command has begun a search for fleeing members of the dreaded ‘Bobone’ armed robbery group terrorising Warri and its environs.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Bright Edafe, disclosed this to newsmen while confirming the death of the armourer of the notorious gang.
It was gathered that policemen from the command had killed the armourer during a raid on criminal hideouts in the state.
During the operation, the police recovered one AK-47 rifle and three magazines from the deceased suspect on June 23, 2023, in the Warri metropolis.
On the day of the incident, it was learnt that the Divisional Police Officer, ‘A’ Division Warri, CSP T.Y Mahmud, led operatives of the division in line with the directive of the Commissioner of Police, Wale Abass, to DPOs and Area Commanders on the need to sanitise their areas of responsibilities by ensuring that criminals do not find comfort in the state.
Acting on intelligence, the DPO, around 06.45pm, led operatives of the division and stormed the hideouts of the criminal gang located along Stadium Road, Warri, where the suspect was nabbed.
Upon interrogation, he confessed to being a member and armourer of the dreaded ‘Bobone’ armed robbery group terrorising Warri and its environs.
He also gave the police additional information on the location of the other gang members and later led the police operatives to their hideouts along Chevron Road, where the policemen, on approaching the hideouts, came under serious attack by his gang members.
Our correspondent gathered that the suspect, while attempting to escape in the ensuing melee, was maimed in his leg, thereby preventing his escape.
While his gang members escaped with gunshot injuries, the maimed suspect was taken to the hospital where he died while receiving treatment.
