A Nigerian returned from Canada, Olufemi Adegbulugbe, has narrated his bitter experience in Lagos State.
Speaking in an interview with Metronetworknews, he recounted the horrific treatment he received in the hands of bandits from northerner part of the country.
His words; “Except Nigeria wake up and address the banditry, criminality and poverty in Northern Nigeria as well as the influx of criminals from Northern States (Kano & Katsina) into Lagos State as well as the congregation of illegal immigrants from Niger, Mali, Chad into Nigeria, especially the SW, Nigeria may be sitting on a keg of gunpowder waiting to explode.
“I made reference to Abijo GRA phase 2, Ibeju Lekki, a Government Resodential area, which has now become the headquarters of Criminals from Mali, Chad, Niger, Kano and Katsina in Lagos State.
“These criminals act with brazen impunity and have taken over the GRA and scared away all land allottees from developing their properties and contributing to the development of Lagos.
“After 28 years in diaspora, I gathered my retirement funds to build a retirement home in Abijo GRA. Just last week, bandits from Niger, Chad, led by Rabiu (the security guard) from Katsina State visited the site and wrecked havoc, stripped the foundation naked by removing all 16mm rods embedded in concrete. Every piece of metal item on site was removed including the electric fence poles. The total loss was estimated at N10 million.
“How can we expect investors to invest in Nigeria when diaspora Nigerians cannot build a home in Lagos because of criminals from Kano and Katsina States who are gradually taking over certain areas in Lagos in collaboration with their bandit brothers from Niger, Chad and Mali.
“Nigeria has difficult decisions ahead. For how long can we tolerate the poverty and banditry from the Northern part of the country, that is now gradually consuming states like Lagos State.
“Yesterday, the story was about Fulani herdsmen. We have now graduated to Iron condemn, Aboki truck pushers and foreign bandits operating with impunity in States like Lagos State. We cannot continue like this.
“I will be forwarding a petition to the CoS to the President, the Governor of Lagos State and the Inspector General of Police to draw attention to the congregation of Boko Haram, criminals and bandits in Abijo GRA phase 2.
“These undesirable elements are majorly from Kano and Katsina States supported by their collaborators from Niger, Chad and Mali.
“I want to say that those that do not want development in Nigeria should allow those that want development the opportunity to do so.
“The extreme poverty in Northern Nigeria and the influx of criminals from Niger and Chad is gradually engulfing the whole country. Lagos State and the South must take needed security measures. Abijo GRA phase 2 has been taken over by Kano and Katsina State criminals!
“I am not a politician and have never earned a penny from Government. But when heaven falls, it will not fall on one man alone. Enough is enough”.
