The International Society for Social Justice and Human Rights (ISSJHR) has stated that  Nigeria was in extreme distress as a result of political manipulations, demanding immediate attention.

The body made the assertion in a statement signed by its chancellor, Dr. Omenazu Jackson, on Wednesday.

The statement read, ” The International Society for Social Justice and Human Rights (ISSJHR) raises a national alarm over the escalating political manipulation in Nigeria, where the political elites have perfected a dangerous craft: the deliberate orchestration of internal party divisions to justify illegal defections, weaken the opposition, and push the country toward a one-party dictatorship.

“This treacherous behavior, now routine among our governors and lawmakers, is a direct assault on constitutional order and a criminal breach of the sacred public trust.

“Across Nigeria, political elites now manufacture chaos within their parties—sponsoring crises, engineering artificial leadership struggles, and planting confusion—just to fabricate grounds for defection.

“This is not defection. This is not politics. This is a well-designed conspiracy to cripple the opposition and suffocate Nigeria into a one-party state.

“Governors are leading the charge of Impunity. Governors who jump from one party to another after securing victory on a particular platform are not defecting—they are stealing the people’s mandate. They violate the social contract. They desecrate the constitution. They spit on the trust of millions of citizens. And they do so with arrogance, confidence, and federal backing.

“Federal power is now a weapon. The federal machinery is increasingly deployed to intimidate opponents, destabilize state-level parties, induce defections, engineer internal divisions, blackmail weaker structures. This is the slow suffocation of multi-party democracy.

“A government that uses federal might to break opposition parties is not governing—it is consolidating authoritarianism.

“The Constitution is being manipulated. Section 68(1)(g) permits defection only where there is genuine party division.
But what happens when the “division” is engineered by politicians desperate to switch loyalty?

“Nigeria is experiencing constitutional vandalism on an industrial scale. A nation sliding into catastrophe.

“We repeat this solemn warning: A nation that lacks the moral fabrics to question lawless behavior has literally welcomed a catastrophic society. Then the rule of law boards a supersonic jet into oblivion. The nation burns.”

“Nigeria is burning in silence. Not through war—but through the flames of elite lawlessness.

“Before Nigeria collapses into a full-blown constitutional crisis, the political elites must step back from this path of destruction and restore moral order through political restitution.

ISSJHR demand the immediate cessation of engineered party crises across the federation, full accountability for governors and lawmakers who defect after betraying their mandate, INEC to enforce seat vacation when defections violate constitutional provisions.

“Furthermore, Judicial courage to end contradictory rulings that enable mandate theft, restoration of internal party democracy through transparent processes, a national conversation on political morality, ethics, and responsibility among the elites.

“Nigeria stands on a dangerous precipice. The political elite are playing games that could fracture the country beyond repair. Their selfish calculations, reckless defections, and orchestrated divisions are pushing Nigeria into democratic suffocation.

“ISSJHR declares, with full moral authority that this nonsense must stop. This conspiracy must end. And political restitution must begin—NOW—before Nigeria is destroyed by those elected to protect her”.
