An Abuja based public affairs commentator and ally of Senator Magnus Abe, Friday Kennedy, has reacted to Gov. Siminialayi Fubara’s comment ‘they handed me love letter’, purportedly referring to the Articles of Impeachment served on him by the Rivers State House of Assembly.
Kennedy took to his facebook account to react to the comment.
He wrote; “Humour, said Lipsey Russel, is the escape valve from the deadly reality of adversity.
“I admire, even adore, the Governor’s sense of humour. In the difficult situation he is enmeshed, humour can be the most comforting companion.
“Speaking at the Pollo tournament in Port Harcourt yesterday, the Governor said “2026 I thought would be the finest, they just handed me a love letter”.
“The love letter the Governor was euphemistically referring to is the Articles of Impeachment served on him by the Rivers State House of Assembly.
“When we were in secondary school, we studied a literary device called euphemism.
“What my literature teacher said that day when defining euphemism in his own words in class has remained etched in my memory.
“He said “euphemism is like a suction pipe that draws seriousness from a dire situation to afford the mind a temporary relief from excruciating reality”.
“To bring humour, like the Governor did, to such serous a situation, is to create a mental subway of escape from a dangerous situation to give opportunity to life.
“But beyond the facade of humour, contrary to what was being bandied on the blogosphere as to whether the Assembly properly served the Governor the articles of impeachment, the Governor’s light-hearted joke clears the air.
“What the Governor said brings illumination to the words of the great Mahatma Ghandi when he said, “If I had no sense of humor I would long ago have committed suicide”.
