Gunmen are on rampage with coordinated attacks and kidnappings in Oyo state.
On Tuesday night, suspected gunmen reportedly launched a coordinated attack on the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) office in Ogbomoso, Oyo State, carting away firearms belonging to officers who were on duty at the time of the incident.
Similarly, suspected gunmen on Wednesday morning, abducted Mrs. Olaide Busayo Adegoke John-Paul, the sister of former Minister of Power and All Progressives Congress (APC) gubernatorial aspirant in Oyo State, Chief Adebayo Adelabu, alongside her 12-year-old twin sons, Peter and Paul.
Mrs. John-Paul, aged 43, was said to be on her way to drop her children at school at about 7:30am when the armed men struck in a coordinated manner.
Confirming the abduction in a statement signed by Comrade Femi Awogboro, Media Aide to the former minister, the family of Chief Adebayo Adelabu described the development as “unfortunate” and deeply distressing.
The statement read; “The family of Chief Adebayo Adelabu, former Minister of Power and leading gubernatorial aspirant of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State, wishes to formally confirm the unfortunate kidnapping of his younger sister, Mrs. Olaide Busayo Adegoke John-Paul, alongside her twin sons, Peter and Paul, in the early hours of Wednesday, June 3, 2026.
“Mrs. John-Paul, aged 43, was reportedly abducted by armed gunmen at about 7:30 a.m. while on her way to drop her children at school in Ibadan.
” The abductors also forcefully took away her 12-year-old twin sons who were with her at the time of the incident.”
The attack on the immigration office situated along the Ogbomoso–Ilorin Motorway, close to the NNPC filling station reportedly occurred at about 10pm.
It was gathered that the armed assailants stormed the facility at a time when commercial activities were still ongoing at the nearby Ayanyan Cattle Market, a busy commercial hub in the area.
During the operation, officers stationed at the immigration office were reportedly overpowered by the invading gunmen who dispossessed them of their firearms before fleeing the scene.
However, the exact number of weapons taken could not be immediately confirmed at the time of filing this report.
As of the time of filing this report, security authorities were yet to confirm the full details of the incident or provide clarity on the scale of the attack, including whether any injuries or casualties were recorded during the invasion.
When contacted for confirmation, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the Oyo State Police Command, DSP Olayinka Ayanlade, stated that he had not yet received an official briefing on the incident.
“I have not been briefed on the incident at this time. I will provide updates as soon as the necessary information becomes available,” the police spokesman stated.
