Worried by the escalation of bad behaviour among children, a group under the aegis of I-Manners has undertaken a re-orientation programme for children from selected Port Harcourt schools to groom them on positive behaviour.
Speaking to Metronetworknews at the Port Harcourt Library, the founder, Rosemary Ale, said the group is engaging the children in reading, games and educative movies to distract them from bad activities capable of corrupting their minds.
She said the students were drawn from different schools in Port Harcourt.
She lamented on the deterioration of good behaviour among children of nowadays and attributed the cause to bad parenting, community upbringing and bad models arising from media showcasing of criminal elements.
The founder said although this was the maiden programme that the group intends to in future embark on other elaborate activities.
” I-Manners is an etiquette club where we are bringing up children that are well mannered in Rivers State. We are here today for a library tour. We want to introduce the children to the library. We want them to be able to enjoy reading in a conducive environment. They are more than 30 children from different schools in Port Harcourt”.
She said what we are facing in our society was not perculiar to us and that advanced societies such as America and other western countries have experienced that and adopted similar programmes to correct their anomalies.
Earlier on, the children were conducted round the library by the librarian, Andrea Afuedeli.
