The chairman of the African Democratic Congress in Bayelsa state, Prof. Theodore Allison led supporters to the party’s national convention tagged “so the nation may work”.
Over 500 delegates are expected at the convention while key items on the agenda include the affirmation of the National Working Committee led by David Mark and Rauf Aregbesola, as well as the approval of a reviewed party constitution and manifesto.
Metronetworknews gathered that everything is fully arranged for the convention scheduled to hold today at the Rainbow Event Centre in Abuja .
It learnt that the Chairman of the Convention Planning Committee and former Cross River State Governor, Liyel Imoke, personally supervised the venue setup alongside other members of the ADC National Convention Organising Committee including; former Imo State Governor, Emeka Ihedioha; former President of the Nigerian Bar Association, Olumide Akpata; former National Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party, Kola Ologbondiyan; and former Director-General of the PDP Governors’ Forum, C. I. D. Maduabum, among other coalition leaders.
It also learnt that while decorators worked round the clock to ensure the venue was ready before daybreak , party supporters were seated around the hall eagerly awaiting the commencement of activities and traders selling water, soft drinks, and other items, who appeared prepared to pass the night there were spotted at the entrance of the event centre.
It would be recalled that after the ADC failed to secure approval to use the Eagle Square and the Moshood Abiola National Stadium Velodrome for its convention, it opted for the Rainbow Event Centre in Garki, Area 8, Abuja.
Meanwhile, ADC spokesperson, Bolaji Abdullahi,on Monday night disclosed the proprietor informed the party that he came under pressure from the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA) and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, not to allow it to use the facility, threatening to revoke his licence.
“After paying all the fees required, setting up for our convention tomorrow, the owner of Rainbow Event Centre has just informed us that he has come under pressure from the FCDA and Minister of FCT, Nyesom Wike, that if he allows the ADC the use of his facilities, his licence will be revoked.
“But we have already signed the contract with him. We will hold our convention tomorrow as planned at the Rainbow event centre”, he stated.
