Opeartives of Rivers State Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has commenced clamping down on motorists who do not have valid driver’s licence.
This followed a directive by the Sector Commander Salisu Galadunci to its operatives to embark on ‘operation show your drivers licence’, to stem the tide of reckless driving and improve security in the state.
In a statement by the Chief Route Commander, Public Enlightenment Officer ,RC Juliana Eni, on Monday, said the move became necessary upon the discovery recently, the rate at which motorists drive without drivers licence on the highways in Rivers state.
This, the statement said was against requirement of the provisions of laws of the state and the federation.
It noted that the rate at which motorists speed on the highways within PortHarcourt metropolis was worrisome, thus the need to checkmate it by ensuring motorists who ply the roads arefirst of all licenced to drive.
The statement reads in part, ”The Sector Commander has directed his operatives in Port Harcourt, Eleme, Ahoada, Isiokpo and Bonny Island to vigorously embark on the special enforcement to clamp down on those who go against the laws, for not driving with drivers licence and other violations of traffic rules and regulations so as to instill discipline in drivers on the highways.
” To this end he wish to stress that his men are tutored to operate strictly under the principles of being fair, firm and friendliness. The general public is hereby strongly requested to be law abiding and to give the personnel the necessary cooperation to achieve this. This is being done in the best interest of the good people of Rivers state, since one who drives without driver licence is as good as one who is driving with licence to kill. The special operation is to commence as from Tuesday 4th to 8th April, 2023”.
