The Senior Special Assistant on Print Media to Lagos State Governor, Wale Ajetunmobi, has been suspended.
The state governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, announced the suspension of Ajetunmobi as his media aide for “misinterpreting fact.” in a statement made available to media houses.
Recall Ajetunmobi had taken to X days ago to claim that some arsonists who torched the Television Continental (TVC) head office in Lagos during the #EndSARS protest in 2020 were “hunted and executed”, following allegations of extra-judicial killings during the protest.
The Lagos State Judicial Panel on #EndSARS and police brutality had indicted Sanwo-Olu in the brutal intervention of the Nigerian Army at Lekki Toll Gate on October 20.
However, the state government rejected the report indicting Sanwo-Olu and the Nigerian Army. Four years after the incident, Ajetunmobi, said on X that the majority of the arsonists who burnt TVC head office have been “hunted and executed.” His posts were soon deleted but screenshots were taken and Nigerians asked him to explain.
The statement read, “Lagos State Governor Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu has suspended his Senior Special Assistant on Print Media, Mr. Wale Ajetunmobi.
“Mr. Ajetunmobi’s suspension comes on the heels of the misrepresentation of facts on his personal “X” account on a past incident.
“The Governor wishes to state categorically that his administration frowns at any form of extra judicial punishment and will not be a part of any such action. That is not who we are. That is not our way”.
Meanwhile, x user @inibehe Effiong, has condemned the suspension.
He wrote: “Suspending Wale Ajetunmobi as your aide does not address the alarming confession of extra-judicial killings made by him. This matter has to be investigated thoroughly by law enforcement agencies.
“He should be taken into custody immediately.
“Wale confessed in clear terms that those who burnt TVC News station at CMD Road, Ikosi, Lagos were trailed and assassinated.
“As a media organization, I believe TVC will want this grave revelation investigated.
“It is imperative for urgent actions to be taken. The Lagos State Government and the Lagos State Police Command have to come clean on this matter.
“Where are the suspects or persons arrested in connection with the arson? What are their names? Has anyone been charged with the arson committed at TVC station?
“I have been wondering why there is no news on the fate of those who attacked TVC News. Now that the suspended aide of the Lagos State Governor has confessed that the suspects were murdered, the public deserves answers.
“We cannot tolerate a situation where the government or those sympathetic to the government or the political class will act as executioners.
“The judiciary is the sole constitutional authority empowered to determine the guilt of anyone accused of a crime”.
