It was a chase galore in Port Harcourt as police chased a gang of armed robbers who snatched a vehicle at Eastern bye-pass road in Port Harcourt City Local Government Area
Metro Network News gathered that upon receiving the signal of the snatched vehicle, the police engaged them in a hot chase as the robbers drove through Eastern bye-pass to East West road, dodging vehicles, following short cuts and ran into Eliowhani town in Obio-Akpor Local Government Area.
At that point, it was learnt that the police signalled all police stations and patrol vehicles.
The medium gathered that in the process of running into Eliowhani town, the snatched vehicle with the suspected robbers fell into a ditch and sympathetic members of the public, ignorant of the fact that they were thieves, came to their rescue.
At that point, the police arrived. When the members of the public realised that the people they were helping were thieves police were looking for, they took to their heels, including the robbers who mixed up with the crowd and escaped.
Meanwhile, police have recovered the stolen vehicle and efforts are being made to arrest the fleeing members of the gang comprising two males and a female.
All efforts to speak wit the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Nnamdi Omoni, proved abortive.
