A public Affairs analyst, Barr. Sogbeye Eli, has urged former Sen. Magnus Abe to stop misleading the public on the provisions of the Constitution.
Eli stated this while responding to the former senator’s comment that the 27 Assembly members having defected to APC must be embraced and supported by all APC members in the state, pointing out that he(Abe) openly defected from PDP to APC on the floor of the Senate and never lost his seat.
His words; ”I learned that one man told his supporters today in Port Harcourt that he defected from the PDP to APC in 2014 and did not lose his seat in the Senate. Kindly tell that man to resist the urge to mislead himself and others on the provisions of the Constitution.
”That no one challenged his defection then in Court, or did but the determination of the question was overtaken by the events of the 2015 general elections, does not make his defection or any other an exception to the provisions for vacation of seats by legislators who defect in breach of the provisions of the Constitution.
”In seeking to amplify the voice of his master who spoke in Ogu over the weekend assuring the 27 former lawmakers that no one would remove them from office, he portrayed himself as another fellow who is disrespectful of the Judiciary. Lawyers don’t speak to foreclose the Courts to which matters have been submitted for adjudication. These two lawyers are forgetting that the issue they are making such declaratory statements on is subjudice!!
”People should try hard enough to lead honest lives and be good examples of the people they lead and not seek to politicize their selfish idiosyncrasies. Political back and forth from that man and his band of supporters is by no means a virtue. Speaking from both corners of the mouth or as occasion serves to please a political interest impeaches the credibility and integrity of men no matter how highly placed”.
