A Canada based Nigerian, Olufemi Adegbulugbe, has decried the recent attack on former President Olusegun Obasanjo 1999-2007 government by Bayo Onanuga, describing it as uncalled for.

In a statement in response to the attack, on Wednesday, Adegbulugbe maintained that there was no basis for comparing the two, stating that so far the government of Obasanjo represents the finest moment of Nigeria’s 4th republic.

The statement read, “It is most unfortunate and sad to even imagine that Mr Bayo Onanuga is a top Government spokesperson today. Clearly, Mr Onanuga is a round peg in a square hole.

“His attempts to compare the government of Obasanjo with the Government of Tinubu is like comparing the taste of sugarcane with bitter kola, and comparing light with darkness.

“First, Obasanjo left Government 17 years ago. He is not our President today and is not accountable to us. I make bold to say that the Government of General Obasanjo represents the finest moment of our 4th republic, in relative terms. Ofcourse Obasanjo was not perfect and there is no perfect Government, but under Obasanjo, Nigeria moved forward, not backwards.

“Under Obasanjo, we witnessed a leader’s capacity to lead. We were presented with a first class cabinet with the likes of Dr Obiageli Ezekwesili and Madam Ngozi. If we categorise the Obasanjo’s cabinet as a gathering of technocrats and intelligent people, the present Tinubu’s cabinet can be rightly classified as a group of bandits and morons, largely incompetent bunch of political entitlement recipients.

“Bayo Onanuga should compare the economic indicators under Obasanjo and Tinubu governments to drive his attempt to justify evil by attacking “Good”. Inflation, GDP, exchange rate, cost of living, consumer price index, FDI, unemployment rate, etc.

” Obasanjo created millions of new jobs with the GSM industry. Under Obasanjo, we had EFCC and ICPC. Under Obasanjo, the economy of Nigeria witnessed growth. Obasanjo created the sovereign wealth fund.
He achieved debt forgiveness. Tinubu grew our debt profile.

“According to Mr Onanuga, if Nigerians committed suicide when PMS was selling for N30 per litre, it implies that the Nigerian homo sapien specie should be extinct by now and completely wiped off the surface of the earth with PMS at N1,000 per litre.

“I am not a politician and will never be but I have a moral and patriotic obligation to speak truth. Those that want to see everything from the prism lenses of politics are free to do so. But some of us must call a spade a spade. There is no basis or justification for Mr Onanuga to take a swipe on the government of Obasanjo and his attempt to justify the rising suicide rate in Nigeria.

“While it is true that many Nigerians have committed suicide due to economic hardship introduced by Tinubu, many more Nigerians are simply walking corpses today. It is very unfortunate.

“When a President spokesperson becomes a wild attack dog, he is not helping his principal. He is only creating enemies for his principal. He is also hurting the Government and the country.

“Bayo Onanuga is simply telling Nigerians that it is okay to commit suicide due to Tinubu- pain because Nigerians have committed suicide in the past.

“Bayo Onanuga’s attempt to justify suicide is most unintelligent and also ungodly.

“President Tinubu is advised to focus energy on fixing the distortion he introduced to our economy and reverse the high cost of living of Nigerians.

“Attacks on Obasanjo will not grow our economy. It will not put food on the table. This is not the time for President Samanja of Balongo Republic vs President Ganaga”.
