Some victims of the windstorm disaster that occurred in Biu town, Biu Local Government Area of Borno State, have narrated their various experiences.
A victim, Mairo Shettima, who spoke to newsmen in Biu on Thursday said, “I had just returned from the market when the storm started. It blew off the roof of my mud house completely. Since then I have not sought refuge at any relations’ house. I sleep instead in the house without any roof; whenever it rains, I cover myself with a mat.”
The mother of eight and farmer did not give any reason for her decision.
Another victim who simply gave his name as Abdullahi, said the roof of his house was partially blown off and called for relief assistance from the government.
He said the need to solicit for the assistance became expedient, considering the magnitude of destruction from the windstorm disaster.
Metronetworknews gathered that the windstorm which occurred on May 25 was preceded by a heavy downpour that swept across the town, leaving over 200 private and public buildings there destroyed.
The public buildings included the town’s Government Girls Secondary School and Central Primary School, while the private buildings were residential houses.
Majority of the buildings had their entire roofs completely or partially blown off. But no lives were lost.
