Wike has been a reoccurring sad commentary so far Rivers State political history is concerned, chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, Chief Eze Chukwuemeka Eze has said.
This is even as a group of aggrieved workers of the FCT on Monday reportedly chased the motorcade of Wike, during a protest over unresolved welfare and salary issues.
Eze made the statement while lamenting the continued poaching on the authority of the Governor of Rivers State, Siminialayi Fubara by Wike.
He recalled that as Governor Wike destroyed all the projects that Amaechi initiated that were visioned to make Rivers State one of the best States in Nigeria. He destroyed the Agricultural, Educational, Security etc projects set up by Amaechi.
“He made Rivers State a war zone in order to ensure that the election of 2023 was rigged to satisfy his foolish ego as the strongman of Rivers State politics”.
The APC chieftain stated that the unwarranted power tussle in Rivers State instigated by the FCT Minister has in no small measures negatively impacted the governance of the State.
Notably, before the declaration of the state of emergency by President Bola Tinubu, Eze said, “the overall pace of governance and general administration of the state progressed steadily until the wheel of state was grounded to a halt by the removal of the Governor.
“The Ring-Road project, for instance, a multi-bilion naira mega road project that connects several local government areas was abandoned for those months the emergency rule lasted. The stoppage altered the architectural timing of the legacy project. And there may be variations which may run into billions. Several other projects which were ongoing before the emergency rule were also affected. The economy of the state was stifled. Investors were scared away. Jobs were lost, investment opportunities missed, IGR lost, and in fact, the unconstitutional regime foisted on the people by the President could not pay salaries, whereas the Administrator and his appointors feasted extravagantly on the purse of the State. And for a job well done, Ibas was rewarded with an Ambassadorial nomination.
On a sincere note, the APC Chief said the scuffle by Wike to scuttle the progress of Rivers State is a worse thing to do to one’s own state.
Eze commended the Governor for his foresight but however expressed worries that since his return to office, he is still battling to find his feet. The sabotage again Fubara was massive and yet the distractions have continued though unnecessary. On a scale, the impact of the crisis on governance is huge and the state will grapple with recovery efforts for a long time. He however prayed God to empower the Governor with the wisdom to navigate the trials of the moment so that the state can bounce back quickly.
In a viral video on social media, the workers, who have been on strike, were seen gathering to press their demands before becoming visibly agitated as Wike’s convoy passed through the area.
The protesters were heard chanting ‘olè’ and moving toward the vehicles while calling for attention to their grievances.
