Worried about the use of veto power by the Rivers state House of Assembly, some residents of Port Harcourt have condemned the assembly for stripping the powers of the governor in order to frustrate him and make his administration uneventful.
A resident, Mr. Jackson Braide, said that there is a clandestine plan by loyalists of Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory to destabilise the government.
His words; ” from all indications, they want to make Gov. Fubara’s administration uneventful by using the state assembly to paralyse his government.
“I feel that Fubara failed to hold the centre of gravity which is to control the state assembly. He would have used his powers as executive governor to buy more legislators as Hope Uzodimma and others did.
“It was also wrong for him to appoint the factional speaker as Chief of Staff in that having the factional speaker is more logical to his cause. And another wrong assumption he has was to assume that Tinubu’s interest is different from Wike. The two are working together.
” Except he(Fubara) adopts more clever tactics to contain Wike and his cohorts, he may end up a lame duck and disgracefully removed.
“The only advantage he has is that he has the support of a majority of Rivers people and also the red biro if cleverly used in power manipulation”.
Another resident, Mrs. Joyce Wuchie, advised Gov. Fubara to reconcile sincerely with Wike since he has agreed ab initio or resign.
On his part, Kalu Chukwudi said, “what is happening in Rivers state is like the proverbial two elephants fighting where the grass will suffer”.
He urged the warring parties to concede for the interest of Rivers state.
It would be recalled that pro-Wike lawmakers overruled Gov. Siminialayi Fubara and enacted the Rivers State House of Assembly Service Commission amendment law, on Friday,
That was the second time the lawmakers would override the state governor.
The House enacted four laws after they said the governor declined his assent to them in January.
