The Abia state government has promised to take up the responsibility of supporting the families of the slain soldiers, including payment of regular stipends to their spouses, and the education of their children to university level.
This was contained in a statement issued on Friday by the Commissioner for Information, Prince Okey Kanu.
It will be recalled that on Thursday, unknown gunmen attacked a military checkpoint and killed 5 soldiers at a checkpoint in Aba, Abia State, during the sit-at-home declared by IPOB to remember those killed during the Biafra civil war.
