Umar Goni, the 16-year-old senior student of Elkanemi College of Islamic Theology Maiduguri who was reported to have slitted the throat of an 11-year-old junior student identified as Jubril Mato, has explained the reason for perpetrating the act.
The suspect who was paraded by the Borno State Police Command, told journalists that he had been telling his parents to remove him from the hostel but they continually declined as such his decision to commit the crime which, according to him, will compel the parents to take him away from the school.
“I did this thing because I told my parents to remove me from the hostel but they did not remove me,” he said.
The junior student, who is currently on admission at the intensive care unit of the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital was, according to the report, being punished by the senior student for refusing to run errands for him.
