The son of the General overseer of Gracelife Church, Barrister Onuoha escaped death on Thursday when the car he was riding hit an electric pole close to their residence at Eliowhani axis of Port Harcourt, the Rivers state capital.
According to eywitnesses, Barrister Onuoha was making a reverse when his vehicle hit the pole which made it to break, fall and pull down three other poles.
A resident who pleaded to remain anonymous said; ”The Barrister was about to make a reverse. In course of doing so, the back tyre of his vehicle went into a ditch. He tried as much as possible to press the trotle downward and all of a sudden, the vehicle failed break and hit the pole behind him.. The pole broke, fell and then dragged other three poles down”.
Another resident who also spoke on condition of anonymity said, ”It was an accident that occurred. A vehicle that was reversing mistakingly hit a pole from its rear side. On hitting it, the pole broke, fell and pulled down three other poles after it. All the lines were immersed in the already flooded area, making the place a very harzadous place to cross at this time of the day. And God so kind PHED was called and the lines were disconnected to avoid electrocution. Plans are being made to restore the lines and raise the poles so that the place can be motorable again because as it stands the place is no longer motorable because the poles have crossed and barricaded the road”.
Our correspondent who visited the scene of the incident, said the vehicle could be seen parked at a corner of the street with its rear glass shattered.
