Chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, Chief Eze Chukwuemeka Eze has extended a hearty felicitation to the pioneer administrator of the Greater Port Harcourt City Development Authority and one time Attorney-General of the oil-rich Rivers State, Dame Aleruchi Cookey-Gam as she marks her birth anniversary.
In a statement made available to the media, the APC chief described Dame Cookey-Gam as a rare breed among the women folk whose versatility and esteemed penchants in public service remain enduring pathways for the younger generation of women who aspire to lead and make impacts in their world.
Peeping into her records, Eze said the former Rivers Chief-Law Officer has been in Legal Practice since 1982, distinguishing herself as a model in courtroom advocacy. With her sterling performance, she was appointed Honorable Attorney General & Commissioner for Justice Rivers State, May 1999, a position she held till May 2003.
Having carved a niche for herself while she held sway as Attorney-General, Dame Cookey-Gam was entrusted with a higher public office when she was appointed Secretary to Rivers State Government in May of 2003. She served in that position till September, 2004 and thereafter returned to Legal Practice.
Like a light that cannot be hidden, Aleruchi was again appointed Pioneer Administrator of the Greater Port Harcourt City Development Authority, January 2009 where she led the development of the master plan for the Greater Port Harcourt City, an ambitious project of the administration of Rt. Hon. Chibuike Amaechi, conceived to address the population surge that nearly buried the garden city status of Port Harcourt. She served in that capacity till May 2015.
Dame Aleruchi Cookey-Gam is the Managing Solicitor at Wachuku Wachuku, a firm of experienced Lawyers dedicated to courtroom advocacy and other sundry law areas.
Eze further highlighted that Dame Cookey-Gam is an exceptional Lady, principled, virtuous, brilliant, visionary and foresighted woman who resisted vehemently the temptation of joining some misguided fellows in raping democracy and distorting economic development of Rivers State for about eight years.
According to Chief Eze, Dame Aleruchi attended the prestigious Federal Government College, Port Harcourt where she finished in 1976 and thereafter proceeded to defunct University of Ife now Obafemi Awolowo University where she bagged her Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) in 1979. Other academic heights achieved include – London School of Economics & Political Science (LSE); London School of Economics & Political Science (LSE) – Master of Laws (LLM) 1981 – 1982.
Congratulating the former Secretary to Rivers State Government for adding another year to her age, Eze prayed God to continue to shower her with long life and health as she pushes further to impact her world the more.
