A political analyst, Mr Somieye Alfred has opposed call on PDP candidates by Governor Nyesom Wike to utilize his flyover projects as tool for their campaigns in the forthcoming general elections.
Speaking in an interview with journalists in Port Harcourt, the analyst advised the candidates not to soleiy rely on what the governor said, noting that a alot of people would look at individuals in 2023.
Alfred urged them to talk about things that make for development such as education, health, industrialization and agriculture during their campaigns.
“Wike is trying to create a family brand but I will strongly advise that every candidate should build independent brand because people will look at individuals in 2023”
” The question is has the flyover help in reduction of poverty and stimulation of economic activities? Have they done economic impact assessment of the flyover on Rivers people and residents. There are alot of Rivers men and women who are unemployed.and hungry. So, it will not make sense for a candidate to go and tell his or her constituents about a white elephant project that don’t have any meaningful impact on their lives. A Project that is not critical infrastructure is not a good tool for campaign”
“There are things that make for development such as education, health and industrialization. These are good tools for campaign not the construction of flyovers that are not even the solution to the traffic congestion in the state.
“That you built flyover, will people go and sleep on them or they are hungry, they will go and look at it?
“A white Flyover project is not something to showcase. How did Gov. Wike touch lives and what those gunning for elective positions want to do for the people should be what to use”, he stated.
Governor Wike had made the call while inspecting on going construction work at the the Ogbum-nu-Abali sandfill, Rumueprikom , Orochiri-Worukwo, Nkpolu-Oroworukwo flyovers in Port Harcourt on Monday,
“This is the campaign for us. This is the campaign for those who are running for Senate, campaign for those who are running for House of Reps, campaign for those who are running for House of Assembly, campaign for those who are running for governor”, he said.
According to him, the sterling performance of his administration through the construction of flyovers will indisputably ensure the electoral victory of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidates for the office of the governor, Senate, House of Representatives and State Assembly in the 2023 general election.
