Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, has set up a five man Taskforce on Sanitation, to oversee the clearing of refuse in Port Harcourt and its environs.
A statement by his Special Assistant on Media, Kelvin Ebiri, said members of the Task Force are; Hon Isoboye Jack as Chairman, Hon. Josiah Olu, Hon. Victor Ihunwo, Prince Wali Wosu and Princess Ibiene Ogan as members.
According to the statement, the appointment takes immediate effect.
Metronetworknews reports that the governor had on several occasions spoken ill of Rivers state Waste Management Agency (RIWAMA) and threatened to sack the sole administration, Bro. felix Obuah.
During his new year broadcast to the people of the state, the governor regretted that the Urban renewal effort of his administration was being defaced by lack of efficient waste disposal system by RIWAMA.
He said those he gave responsbility to manage waste disposal have disappointed him.
“Those who are in charge of sanitation have failed us and soon we are working on it”, he stated.
Pundits believed that Gov Wike was making good his threat to remove the duty of managing waste from the agency by the new appointments.
Furtheromore, some of them are of the opinion that the appointment of members of the taskforce may be connected to the rift between Gov. Wike and Bro. Obuah during the Governorship primary election in the state.
They alleged that the governor had asked Obuah to shelve his governorship ambition and support his(Wike) aspirant but he bluntly disobeyed him.
This, according to them, did not go down well with the governor who sees obuah as being rebellious towards him and had waited for this time to pay him back.
