A University Don and Ex-Presidential Candidate of Mass Action Joint Alliance (MAJA), Funmilayo Adesanya-Davies, has advised the leadership of the National Association of Nigerian Students(NANS), to use voters’ cards for school clearance and registration at faculties and departmental levels.
The varsity don said it has become expedient for the apex students’ body to legislate that collection of Voters Cards should be made compulsory for all students in tertiary institutions for purpose of enforcement.
Adesanya-Davies who is a senior lecturer at the Ignatius AJuru University of Education,Rivers state, gave the advice at an event to mark the 2021 International Youth Day, organised by South South Youth Initiative (SSYI) in Port Harcourt, the Rivers state capital.
She further opined that the students’ body should drive all the rest non-student Nigerian Youth population to register for their voters’ cards.
This, she said could be achieved by being programed through the popular Big Brother event; as there were 170 Million votes during the last season.
“Please, urgently divert this energy to collection of voters’ cards, co-operative banking farming etc”, she pleaded.
” Again, economically, it is pathetic that 170 Million votes were recorded. Multiplied this by N30 = N 5.1 billion and the winner got N25 million plus an SUV worth N12 million, an international trip and electronics. Let us even assume that SMS votes is 85 million, that will be N2.55 billion. What are the Nigerian youths gains from the programme? Nothing! So sad!” Kindly and urgently divert this energy to formation of co-operative banking and agricultural/farming competition etc”, she also appealed.
Adesanya-Davies urged NANS to enable the nation choose the right leaders for the country during the up-coming 2023 elections, saying that the country is currently fading, sliding and sinking into oblivion as a failed state.
